Additional Information

What is Filler?

Dermal fillers are injections that plump up wrinkles and smooth lines on your face. There are several types of dermal fillers. Our healthcare providers can inject dermal fillers in the areas around your eyes, mouth, cheek, chin, jawline, lips, and nose. This common cosmetic procedure typically produces results right away, and can last months or years.

What can I expect?

Using a thin needle, our healthcare providers inject small amounts of filler under the skin. The needle will pinch or sting, but most people don’t experience much pain during these injections. We have distraction tools, numbing gels and ice to help with any pain. Your healthcare provider may inject the fillers in several areas depending on what you’ve discussed. The whole process typically takes under an hour.

What areas can be treated?

Our healthcare providers can inject dermal fillers in the areas around your eyes, mouth, cheek, chin, jawline, lips, and nose.

Pre-Care Instructions

For 3-5 days before treatment, avoid blood thinners like NSAIDs (including Advil, aspirin, and Aleve) and fish oils. Any blood thinning medication can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after your treatment. If you need to take an over-the-counter pain reliever, take Tylenol instead.

Avoid alcohol for a few days before your injection to lower your risk of bruising.

Pause your retinol regimen for two days before injections.

Post-Care Instructions

Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by provider. Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases your heart rate for 24 hours. Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours (no sauna, hot tub). Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling. • You may apply a cool compress or ice pack for 15 minutes each hour while awake to reduce swelling. Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort. No NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) for 24 hours as they can increase bleeding. Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling. You may want to consider taking Arnica to help with the bruising and swelling. Avoid wearing makeup the day of procedure. Sanitize your phone before putting it to your face and try to talk on speaker phone as much as you can day of. Wait a minimum of two weeks before dental work, immunizations, or other aesthetic treatments.

Expected Downtime

The full recovery time from dermal filler treatments varies patient to patient. Generally, recovery from minor swelling lasts one to two days. Most patients are available to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.

How long will my filler last?

Dermal fillers lengths vary from person to person and with lifestyle. Speak with your provider for the best estimate.
